Case study / KTM Technologies

Close the loop from end-of-life parts to future components.

Carbon Cleanup and KTM Technologies explored how recovered composite and polypropylene material could be engineered for mobility applications.

The challenge

Make the next component start with the previous one.

The published collaboration identified composite material from crashed KTM X-Bow race cars together with end-of-life polypropylene components as potential inputs. The question was how to prepare those streams for defined, process-ready material routes.

The approach

Recover, engineer, then evaluate.

01 / Secure

Identify suitable inputs.

The partners focused on end-of-life material streams with a defined next-use question.

02 / Prepare

Build material routes.

Carbon Cleanup prepared recycled-fiber blends for further material engineering and processing trials.

03 / Evaluate

Match material to application.

KTM Technologies assessed concepts for injection-molded components and future production use.

The material routes

More than one way back into production.

The original study describes two pathways: compounds for injection molding and carbon Fiber Needles™ for bulk molding compound applications. Any move into series production depends on the required validation, part design and material specification.
